It is a national association of companies involved in the decontamination of asbestos, one of the most common hazardous substances in the environment. Founded in 1988 following a request to set standards for work safety in the removal of asbestos and other hazardous substances, the federation represents hands on professionalism and expertise in surveys, renovation, and the removal of asbestos and other hazardous substances.

Its main activities are cooperation with authorities (for example the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health or regional state administrative agencies), participation in the preparation of the asbestos legislation (2016), organising annual conventions, benchmarking abroad, and international cooperation and membership. The federation continuously works to obtain the best practices in the field in Finland and internationally.

The members consist of demolition and demolition companies, laboratories, equipment and suppliers, asbestos and contaminant experts (AHA), building health specialists (RTA), and educational organisations.
