Crush and screen at will, anything, anywhere
Published 27/2 at 13:24A crushing or screening bucket is a compact mobile recycling centre fitted on the business end of an excavator or a wheel loader. The variety of materials they are capable of processing is virtually unlimited – concrete, asphalt, gypsum, topsoil, turf, frozen sand - you name it. PDi delivers the breaking news from the crusher/screening bucket industry.
Hydraram features ‘HPS’ series of screening buckets
Netherlands based attachment specialist Hydraram has been manufacturing the HPS series (HPS standing for Hydraram Power Screener) of screening buckets for over 5years now. These power screeners are available in 11 models to fit excavators and wheel loaders ranging in operating weight from 2t to 30t. They come equipped with polyurethane stars to reduce wear and noise pollution. The standard screen size is 20mm x 20mm, but it can be easily adjusted to a 10mm x 10mm configuration. The material is constantly rotated, without any chopping or pinching, allowing the screening of damp and fragile materials. The buckets are suitable for processing of topsoil, waste, turf, roots, gypsum, knotweed and other materials. According to the Dutch manufacturer, the bucket boasts a unique screening function. It rotates the material in a manner similar to that of a trommel screen but has the additional benefit of rotating star discs agitating and clawing at the material as it turns. This is achieved by mounting the star shafts on a large arc, forming the back and the top of the bucket. A variable speed control is fitted as standard to make it possible to adjust fragment size by changing the shaft speed. Most importantly, this allows the operator to set the shaft speed to suit conditions and requirements of a specific jobsite. The heavy duty chain drive powered by hydraulics is rugged and reliable. The lightweight polyurethane stars allow for creating a massive screening area as compared to the bucket’s weight.
M Lloyd Engineering: a screening bucket pioneer
The origin of M Lloyd Engineering Ltd. dates back to 1998 when its founder Matt Lloyd began designing and manufacturing agricultural equipment. A lack of suitable machinery on the market at the time led to Matt developing his first rotary screening bucket with a quick change drum system in 2002. His next innovation was a screening bucket with a conical drum. In 2007, Matt designed the ‘Rotastar’ screening bucket, featuring polyurethane stars. In 2021, the company received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade. The manufacturer’s new DL 13-20 washing and fine screening bucket has been specifically designed for fine screening and washing applications. This model is widely used for screening and de-leading bullets from shooting ranges and for washing gravel in settlement beds. The 850l drum features a double cone design, with all of the material contained in the drum, ensuring maximum screening area and output. The bucket has hydraulic powered brushes to keep the apertures clean. It also features a simple drive and bearing design with no submerged reduction gearbox or slewing ring gear. Weighing in at 1,223kg, the attachment is suitable for telehandlers, loading shovels and excavators with a minimum operating weight of 13t.
MB Crusher solutions help save customers time and money
MB Crusher, an Italy based trailblazer in crusher and screening buckets, has supplied a BF90.3 crusher bucket to its customer for a job in Spain. As soon as the contractor began using the attachment, it discovered significant savings in time and investment. Previously, the company had to send all waste material to a landfill, incurring high transport and disposal costs. Now, it recycles waste directly onsite, transforming it into reusable resources for this and other construction sites. Another case study involves an Italian contractor using a MB-C50 crusher bucket fitted on a mini excavator to process debris from the demolition of an old two family home. The resulting material was reused onsite to fill the foundations of the new building and the adjacent courtyard. The contractor stated that with the MB Crusher has managed to save time and money, but above all, been able to protect the environment. The company further stated that its clients increasingly appreciate this eco-friendly approach.
