In Basel, Switzerland, an old truck park area is currently being demolished as part of a large scale project to create a green oasis in this otherwise densely developed area. The concept of this deconstruction involves exposing the ribbed concrete floor slabs, which are around 10m and 11m long, and 1.5m and 1.25m wide, and then removing them. These newly obtained elements are to be reused in order to drastically reduce CO2 emissions in the construction of the new car park. The long term project started in autumn 2024 and will continue well into 2025.
All concrete drilling and sawing work in this project is being done by the Swiss company Interbohr AG. The professionals of the company are relying on machines and tools from Tyrolit for use, on among other things, the car park which is being dismantled by using no fewer than five WSE1621 wall saws. To achieve the accuracy necessary for the reuse of the elements, the elements are each cut in three stages using Tyrolit diamond saw blades with diameters of 600mm, 800mm and 1,200mm. Due to the duration of the project, consideration is also given to local residents by exclusively cutting with ‘Silent’ diamond saw blades. Tyrolit diamond saw blades in this version reduce noise during cutting by 10 decibels, which means that the noise is perceived as only half as loud.
