D-Drill appoints new Plymouth branch manager

D-Drill (Master Drillers) Limited has expanded its team and appointed Jimmy Smith as the new Plymouth Area Manager. Jimmy brings more than 30 years of experience in the diamond drilling industry to D-Drill, making him an ideal resource for customers of the Plymoth branch.

Smith started out at CUT-A-WAY in Luton where he learned techniques such as diamond drilling, concrete cutting and track sawing. He then spent four years at Kilnbridge in London, where he progressed to become a contract supervisor. Smith then worked for Drilltec as a contract manager and was soon promoted to contract director.
“I’m really pleased to be working for D-Drill,” Smith says. “They’re such a long-established and reputable drilling company. And I’m keen to apply my skills to further develop the Plymouth branch.”
Smith isn’t the only new aspect to D-Drill’s Plymouth operations. The company recently completed a new office and workshop facility in Plympton. D-Drill has grown year-on-year since its inception. In addition to the nine regional offices, the company also has its own engineering department that manufactures drills, blades and equipment (under White Diamond Products Ltd, an operating division.) This enables D-Drill to contain its costs, and therefore keep its charges competitive. The company has further expanded its services with its Superfloor specialist surface preparation division, which offers surface preparation from shotblasting and scarifying to diamond grinding and concrete polishing.
Continuing with its “one-stop shop” service approach, D-Drill has diversified into the demolition contracting market with the acquisition of MBC Specialist Services. MBC provides a complementary service to D-Drill’s core diamond drilling and sawing service. Through MBC, D-Drill introduced the use of Brokk remote demolition machinery, an important step-change in its already rigorous health and safety policies.
